Raptors One Point Out of First Place with Win Over Livonia

#20, Leah Pritchard

The Raptors traveled to Livonia on Thursday night to face off against the Livonia Lightning. An explosive first half helped them secure a 5-0 win.

The Raptors dominated possession early, and it didn't take long for Abby Scanlan to start off the scoring for Albion. Halee Passarell fed her a pass to her feet, Scanlan turned and beat two defenders to get into Livonia's box, and earned the Raptors first goal with a low shot far post. Nikki Creasey was next to get on the scoresheet with another assist from Passarell. Creasey received her pass, turned on her defender to create space for herself, and hit a laser of shot from 20 yards out over Livonia's goalkeeper.

It would be another goal from Scanlan to bring the Raptor's lead to 3-0. Alezya Brown earned the assist after beating her defender endline and putting the ball back to Scanlan for the one tie finish. Scanlan would finish her hat trick in the last seconds of the first half after Alyson Knaak put a great cross from far out through the box. Scanlan was crashing the net and got a quick flick for the goal.

The Raptors offense slowed down in the second half, as they were creating plenty of chances, but weren't able to finish all their opportunities. Late in the half though, Olivia Krenning would earn the Raptors fifth and final goal, after finishing a corner kick from Creasey at the back post.

Sydney Mulka and the Raptors' defense earned the shut out in goal, limiting the Lightning to almost no shots on net.

The Raptors finish their season next week with a set of back to back games, looking to capitalize on a chance to earn six points and finish first overall in the RDYSL standings. Their first game will be on Tuesday, August 3 against the Livonia Lightning, followed by a showdown for first place on Wednesday, August 4 against Penfield.
