Raptors Battle for Win over Victor SC

Abby Scanlan, #14

The Raptors had an uphill challenge most of the game Thursday night, but we're able to fight for a 3-0 win over Victor SC.

Abby Scanlan would start off the scoring in the first half. Scanlan had a high, side volley on the back post off a corner kick from Nikki Creasey. Scanlan would double the Raptors lead shortly after with an assist to Ella Fadale. Fadale played an early cross to Scanlan on the far side, Scanlan got in for the breakaway and beat the challenging Victor goalkeeper far post.

The adversity began about halfway through the first. After a tough 50/50 collision at the top of the box, Raptors starting goalkeeper, Sydney Mulka, was disciplined with a red card. Aly Knaak stepped up to take over in goal, as the Raptors had to play the rest of the game down a player. The went into the second half holding the 2-0 lead.

Looking to slow down and focus on possession, the Raptors' offense slowed in the second, but Fadale would add the final goal about halfway through the second half. Halee Passarell earned the assist, sending Fadale on a breakaway on a well placed through ball. Looking to lock down on defense, Scanlan stepped up to relieve Knaak in goal for the final 15.

Mulka, Knaak, and Scanlan each made a couple saves in goal to earn the shutout. The Raptors backline of Knaak, Passarell, Claire Squicciarini, Lily Miller, Aurora Serafin, and Kiera Wilson, once again were tough to play against, controlled the game, and limited Victor's scoring chances to a few.

The Raptors have a nine day break to rest and recover, and then are back at it on July 30 for their final road game at Lakefront. Kick off is set for 10am.
