Raptors Avenge Only Loss with 8-1 Win Over Cobras FC

Maija Young, #23

The Raptors added another three points in the RDYSL standings with a definitive 8-1 win over the visiting Cobras FC.

It took some time for the Raptors' offense to get started, but once it did it kept going. Carly Burgess started off the scoring. Alezya Brown put a low cross through the box and Burgess was at the back post for the finish. Ella Fadale would earn the eventual game winner with a header goal off a corner kick from Maija Young. Brown would add the insurance goal next. Claire Squicciarini forced a turnover at half field, then drove through the midfield with a give and go with Halee Passarell. Squicciarini slipped a pass through the box to Brown to run on to for a far post finish. Rounding out the scoring for the first half was Young. Squicciarini took a free kick just inside the Raptors' attacking half, when Young took the kick down, turned and hit her shot from 35 yards out over the Cobras FC goalkeeper.

Abby Scanlan would get the first goal of the second half. Young got the ball on the far right side and put a lobbed cross to Abby at the back post for a quick side volley finish. Young’s second goal came off an assist from Burgess. After winning a cross from Scanlan, Burgess played a ball back to Young for another sailing shot over the goalkeepers hands. Young would then complete her hat trick with an assist from Brown.

The Cobras got on the scoresheet in the 65th minute off a partial breakaway. An unfortunate bounce sent the Cobras forward on a breakaway, Raptors defender Julie Coble was able to track her down, but the Cobras forward was able to cut back for a quick shot past Coble and Raptors goalkeeper Sydney Mulka.

Liv Eaton would then take over in net for her goalkeeping debut, making one save in her time to hold the Cobras at one.

Scanlan would come back shortly afterwards for the Raptors’ final goal. Nikki Creasey played a ball to Scanlan’s feet, who turned inside on her defender and finished far post.

The Raptors’ defense played another solid game to keep the Cobras out of their defensive end, and Mulka added a few key saves in the first half.

The Raptors' next game is Sunday July 10 against Leroy SC. Kick off is set for 6:30 at Genesee Community College.
