Another Shutout Win Moves Raptors up to Second Place

Julie Coble, #9

With a 5-0 win over visiting Lakefront SC, the Raptors have moved up to second place in the RDYSL U19 DII standings.

While it took some time for the Raptors offense to get going, they were still able to control possession throughout the game. About halfway through the first, Abby Scanlan opened up the scoring after cleaning up a rebound on an early cross from Aly Knaak. Doubling the Raptors lead was Halee Passarell. Nikki Creasey took the ball endline and put a cross through the goal mouth. Passarell made a run in from the midfield to pick up the rebound and finish far post.

Starting off the second half scoring was another from Scanlan. After a foul on Claire Squicciarini, Scanlan stepped up to the free kick and hit a 30 yard shot past the Lakefront goalkeeper. Next on the scoresheet was Alezya Brown with an assist from Scanlan. Squicciarini played a long ball to Scanlan into space, and Scanlan drew two defenders towards her as she ran into the box. She placed a perfectly timed pass to Brown running in on the back post. Rounding out the scoring for the night was another from Brown. Making another run back post, she was able to get on the end of a corner kick from Nikki Creasey for a header goal.

The Raptors defense along with goalkeeper, Sydney Mulka, earned their third straight shutout. Lakefront continuously tried to play over the backline, looking for a breakaway, but the Raptors defense was quick to transition and regain possession., Mulka was quick off her line to break up any potential breakaways before they happened.

The Raptors have a nine day break until their next game on July 7. They look to avenge their only loss on the season to Cobras FC. The game will be at Genesee Community College at 6:30.
